These are the 100 most-used words in English. Master them and you'll instantly understand more than half of any spoken or written English. Each word here comes with a clear Hindi meaning and an example sentence so you can hear it in real context.

Core verbs (the workhorses)

get to receive / to obtain पाना / लेना	I'll get the tickets tomorrow. मैं कल टिकट ले लूँगा।
make to create / to cause to happen बनाना	She makes great biryani. वो बहुत बढ़िया बिरयानी बनाती है।
take to pick up / to accept लेना	Take this umbrella with you. ये छाता अपने साथ ले जाओ।
know to have information about जानना	Do you know her name? क्या तुम उसका नाम जानते हो?

Function words (glue)

Everyday adjectives

old aged / not new पुराना	This is my old laptop. ये मेरा पुराना लैपटॉप है।
new recent / fresh नया	She got a new job. उसे एक नई नौकरी मिल गई।
happy feeling good खुश	I'm happy to see you. तुम्हें देखकर मैं खुश हूँ।
easy not difficult आसान	This recipe is very easy. ये रेसिपी बहुत आसान है।

Pronouns (who you mean)

Prepositions (where and how)

to towards / until को / तक	I go to office by bus. मैं बस से ऑफिस जाता हूँ।
in inside / within में	The keys are in my bag. चाबियाँ मेरे बैग में हैं।

on on top of / on a day पर / को	The book is on the table. किताब मेज़ पर है।
with together / using के साथ	Come with me to the market. मेरे साथ बाज़ार चलो।
at at a place or a time पर / बजे	We will meet at five o'clock. हम पाँच बजे मिलेंगे।
from the starting point से	I am coming from the office. मैं ऑफिस से आ रहा हूँ।

More everyday verbs

try to attempt कोशिश करना	I will try to come on time. मैं समय पर आने की कोशिश करूँगा।
leave to go away / to let stay निकलना / छोड़ना	I leave home at eight. मैं आठ बजे घर से निकलता हूँ।
put to place somewhere रखना	Put the bag on the chair. बैग कुर्सी पर रख दो।

Verbs for daily life

People and time

friend a person you like and trust दोस्त / मित्र	He is my oldest friend. वह मेरा सबसे पुराना दोस्त है।

Places and things

Small words, big difference

Word	Example
not makes a sentence negative नहीं	I am not going today. मैं आज नहीं जा रहा।
very to a great degree बहुत	This tea is very hot. यह चाय बहुत गरम है।
just only / a moment ago बस / अभी-अभी	I have just finished my work. मैंने अभी-अभी अपना काम खत्म किया है।
now at this moment अब / अभी	I am busy right now. मैं अभी व्यस्त हूँ।
also in addition भी	She also wants to come. वह भी आना चाहती है।
only no more than सिर्फ / केवल	I have only ten rupees. मेरे पास सिर्फ दस रुपये हैं।
more a greater amount ज़्यादा / और	Please give me a little more time. कृपया मुझे थोड़ा और समय दीजिए।
