Subject-Verb Agreement

A singular subject needs -s/-es on the verb (with he/she/it). Hindi has no such marker, so Hindi speakers often drop the -s by habit.

The rule

Add -s/-es to the verb only when the subject is ONE person or thing: he / she / it / a name / a single noun. Plural subjects and I / you / we / they take the plain verb.

Explained

Subject-verb agreement is the rule that decides whether a verb takes -s/-es or not. The trigger is simple: only single subjects (he, she, it, a name, one thing) need -s. Everything else — I, you, we, they, and plural nouns — takes the plain verb. By the end of this lesson you will catch and correct this in your own speech.

Common mistakes

She go to office every day.

She goes to office every day.

A subject that is one person or thing makes the verb take -s — so 'She goes', not 'She go'.

My brother don't like coffee.

My brother doesn't like coffee.

A singular subject takes 'doesn't' in the negative, not 'don't'. 'Don't' is only for I/you/we/they.

The team are playing well.

The team is playing well.

'Team' is a collective noun treated as singular here — say 'The team is', not 'The team are'.

Informations are useful.

Information is useful.

'Information' is uncountable — it has no plural. And because it's singular, the verb takes 'is', not 'are'.
