Listening: Gist vs Detail

Two ways to listen to audio — for overall meaning (gist) or for specific information (detail). Use gist for movies and news, and detail for exams and instructions.

Explained

There are two listening modes: gist (overall meaning) and detail (specific facts). Movies and casual conversation need gist. Travel announcements, instructions, and exams need detail. This lesson teaches you when and how to switch between them.
